History of UniversityRooms.com
In 2002, frantically preparing for his undergraduate Geography exams at the University of Oxford, Charlie Ramsay wanted to keep his room over the Christmas vacation and realised that not all the bedrooms in his College were being filled with conferences and summer schools. He came up with the idea of UniversityRooms.com for Universities and Colleges to advertise their excess rooms.
Convinced that tourists, business people and visiting academics would welcome the opportunity to stay at low cost in well located university rooms, some with an interesting history, he set about it and the first booking was made in March 2007, with Charlie working from a one bedroom flat in central London.
UniversityRooms.com has now generated over £75m / $100m in revenue for over 100 Universities in 12 countries around the world. Many have reinvested the proceeds in their buildings, whilst others have decided to subsidise student rates. So, thank you to all our customers: your bookings are helping support students and academic causes around the world.
Supporting our Environment
We give a small contribution from every booking (at no extra cost to you) to World Land Trust, an organisation that has saved more than 750,000 acres of threatened habitat from deforestation or development by creating protected reserves.
